How To Keep Your Blonde Hair From Getting Brassy

Good morning everyone!

Around this time of the year I often feel the urge to change up my hair a little.
Currently, I am loving really light blonde, almost grey-ish highlights or ombre. I love that colder tones are so popular at the moment. My hair is quite long and naturally blonde. Highlights and Ombre are great because you don't have to worry about your roots growing out and getting your hair re-dyed every few weeks.
Before going to the hairdresser and spending a lot of money on bleaching my hair I like to create Pinterest boards for inspiration. I always walk into the salon with a couple of photos of what I want the result to look like.
You can look at my Pinterest board here:
I have also included some of my favorites from Instagram and in the end I will tell you how to keep your hair from getting brassy and yellow.

A great tip to keep your blonde hair from turning brassy and yellow is to mix some purple shampoo into your conditioner or hair mask. My favorites are Daddy-O by Lush and L'Oreal's OleoTherapy Deep Recovery Mask. These toning shampoos work wonders because purple and yellow are complementary colors, meaning that the purple pigments in the shampoo cancel out the yellow undertones of your blonde strands.
My hairdresser recommended to wash your hair with your normal shampoo, squeeze out the excess water and then apply the purple shampoo together with a hydrating mask/conditioner. This way you can really work the product into your hair and you will see great results.
There's are really helpful article in InStyle where they explain exactly how it works.

I hope this post was helpful for all of you blondies out there! Tell me what you think of this light blonde/ grey hair trend in the comments below!

  3. Love your hair! When I had dyed my hair blonde last year, I also used purple shampoo but I didn't use too much of it because it didn't give me the wanted effect.

  10. I've tried mixing purple toned conditioner with regular one and it always was too much of a purple tone to my hair after, but it has never came to my mind to mix it with shampoo. Great advice!

  11. First of all, I should say you've just got me hooked on a load more Instagram accounts now haha! Secondly, I love your tips on keeping blonde hair from going brassy. My hair seems to look different in every single photo and light-setting/location, so it ranges from 'not at all brassy' to 'brassy' in the space of a day haha. Your hair colour is beautiful by the way, really suits you :)
